Mathematics is the study of how we make sense of the world — from managing money and designing apps to building bridges and predicting the weather.

At Knutsford Academy we aim to deliver a fun and inspiring Maths curriculum that connects learning to everyday life and future careers — using a mix of interactive lessons, real-world problem-solving, collaborative projects, and digital tools to build confidence, spark curiosity, and develop critical thinking skills for success.

Our Key Stage 3 Maths curriculum is designed to support mastery learning by focusing on core mathematical concepts such as number, ratio, algebra, and shape. It builds on Key Stage 2 foundations and aims to develop students' confidence, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.

Maths is streamed from Year 7, based on Key Stage 2 assessment. This ensures that students can access the correct level of work in order to realise their potential. Each class will cover 10 units, which incorporate the main 4 strands of Maths; Number, Algebra, Data and Geometry.

Computing is the study of how digital systems, communication and information shape the modern world — from the apps we use every day to the networks that connect communities and the technologies driving future innovation.

Overview to curriculum

At Knutsford Academy, our aim is to provide a stimulating and forward‑thinking Computing curriculum that helps students understand and navigate an increasingly digital society. Through practical activities, creative problem‑solving, and the exploration of real technological challenges, we encourage learners to build confidence, develop independence, and discover the possibilities of technology.

Our Key Stage 3 Computing curriculum lays secure foundations in key areas such as data representation, programming, digital literacy, e‑safety, and understanding how computer systems operate. Building on knowledge gained in Key Stage 2, students develop their ability to think logically, design solutions, and work both independently and collaboratively.

Computing lessons are structured to ensure every student is supported and appropriately challenged. Over the course of each year, students explore a range of engaging units drawn from the three central strands of the subject: Computer Science, Information Technology, and Digital Literacy. This approach ensures they gain both the practical skills and the conceptual understanding needed to thrive in a technology‑rich world and pursue further learning opport
